Crown & Bridge Technician
Job Description:
- Interpreting Prescriptions: Reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, digital designs, or instructions provided by dentists or prosthodontists for creating crowns, bridges, and related dental prosthetics.
- Model Preparation: Constructing accurate plaster or digital models of patients’ oral structures to serve as a foundation for fabricating restorations.
- Framework Fabrication: Designing, crafting, or customizing the metal or ceramic frameworks that provide the structure and support for crowns, bridges, or implant-supported prostheses.
- Material Selection: Selecting appropriate materials such as metal alloys, ceramics, or newer materials like zirconia, and layering them onto frameworks to form the anatomical shape of the restoration.
- Shaping and Finishing: Shaping, contouring, and refining the surface of the prosthetic restoration to ensure proper fit, occlusion, and aesthetics.
- Quality Control: Thoroughly inspecting the finished restorations for accuracy, fit, aesthetics, and functionality before sending them to the dental office for placement.
- Collaboration and Communication: Working closely with dental professionals to understand patient needs and ensure the precise fabrication of dental restorations.
Job Requirements:
- Education and Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Formal education in dental laboratory technology through vocational schools, community colleges, or specialized dental technology programs is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in dental laboratory techniques related to crown and bridge work, including model preparation, framework fabrication, material selection, shaping, and finishing.
- Knowledge of Materials: Familiarity with various dental materials, such as metals, ceramics, and newer materials like zirconia, and understanding their properties, uses, and handling.
- Attention to Detail: Precision and attention to detail are critical to ensure the quality, fit, and aesthetics of dental restorations.
- Manual Dexterity: Skilled in using fine dental instruments and tools to manipulate materials and create precise dental restorations.
- Adherence to Safety and Regulations: Knowledge of safety protocols, infection control, and compliance with industry standards and regulations in dental laboratory practices.
- Experience: Practical experience or apprenticeships in a dental laboratory focusing on crown and bridge work is highly beneficial for developing hands-on skills and expertise.
