Stone Model Technician

Job Description:

1. Impression Examination: Reviewing dental impressions taken by dental professionals to ensure quality and accuracy before creating stone models.
2. Material Preparation: Mixing dental stone or gypsum materials according to specific formulations for pouring molds.
3. Pouring Models: Pouring the prepared material into the impressions to create accurate stone models of patients’ oral structures.
4. Model Trimming: Trimming excess material, smoothing surfaces, and refining the stone models to ensure accuracy and usability for further fabrication stages.
5. Quality Control: Inspecting the poured stone models for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to specific requirements before advancing to subsequent fabrication steps.

Job Requirements:

1. Education and Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Many technicians pursue formal education in dental laboratory technology through vocational schools, community colleges, or specialized dental technology programs.
2. Technical Skills: Proficiency in working with dental impressions and stone or gypsum materials to create accurate models. Familiarity with various types of dental stones and their properties.
3. Attention to Detail: Precision and attention to detail are crucial to ensuring the quality and accuracy of the stone models.
4. Manual Dexterity: Skill in handling dental materials and tools to pour models and trim excess material accurately.
5. Adherence to Safety and Regulations: Knowledge of safety protocols, infection control, and compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding dental laboratory practices.
6. Communication and Collaboration: Ability to understand instructions from dental professionals and work collaboratively within a team in the dental laboratory setting.
7. Experience: Practical experience or apprenticeships in a dental laboratory setting can be beneficial for gaining hands-on skills and knowledge in creating accurate stone models.
